Barcelona is one of the best cities in Spain to find and enjoy great coffee. Many of these cafés have opened in recent years to embrace the specialty coffee wave and celebrate coffee as an experience. Brew Coffee

Brew Coffee

Brew coffee makes our list for the best specialty coffee in Barcelona. Here’s why… This cafe is picking up every award going at the time of writing. They’ve just won best cafe and best barista in the 2023 bcn coffee awards. With this kind of prestige this already popular spot is going be even more popular in 2024. Aside from the awards this is a genuine place with friendly baristas. There’s always a nice atmosphere with people enjoying coffee, chatting, working on laptops and writing in notebooks. On the times we’ve visited, the coffee has always been excellent and we recommend the iced latte with oat milk and their espresso. They aren’t a coffee roaster so they have a curated selection of roasters they use from local and international roasters. They also have a great terrace at the front to chill with your favourite bevvy. It’s located in Fort Pienc so Arc de Triomf is very close by and Barcelona’s biggest green space Ciutadela Park is only 10 minutes away. 🥇Award winning 🌴Good atmosphere 💻 Work friendly ☀️Terrace seating Espresso Machine: La Marzocco Coffee Roaster: Brew Coffee Vegan Milk: Oat Other Food & Drink: Sandwiches, pastries... COTO COFFEE + COLMADO

COTO COFFEE + COLMADO

Coto coffee makes our list for the best specialty coffee in Barcelona. Here’s why… When you find this place it’s like discovering a secret spot. You have to take the right turns and choose the right alley and hope it appears 😅 Low key one of the most interesting coffee to go places in Barcelona. Partly because of the location, mostly because of the illustrations and creative vibe going on in this space. Coto’s going hard on the artistic front and the place is packed with bright colors, illustrations, artwork and artisanal food and wine. Their own vibrant branding which is super fun and cool is plastered over everything from the windows to the beans. The coffee here is from local roaster Onawa and the barista made two excellent cortados with oat milk for us which was perfect on this winters day. We enjoyed the coffee in the alley outside and even with the low light we got some awesome photos of the gothic architecture and surroundings nearby. If you are in the gothic quarter we recommend finding this one of a kind place. 🌈 Creative space with art and illustration 🧐 Secret location (kind of) 🏰 Gothic quarter Espresso Machine: La Marzocco Coffee Roaster: Onawa Coffee Roasters Vegan Milk: Oat Other Food & Drink: Homemade cakes Instagram: @coto.bcn Baixada de Caçador, 1, 08002 Barcelona Closed now

Coffee Hackers

Coffee Hackers

Coffee Hackers makes our list for the best specialty coffee in Barcelona. Here’s why… This hidden gem in a lesser known neighbourhood of Barcelona serves some of the best espresso, cortados and lattes in the city. The espresso here especially is one of my favourite drinks and on its day it’s one of the best I’ve tried. It even has a special type of glass I’d never seen before and looks beautiful in presentation. They’re a micro roaster with the coffee roasted in house so you know it’s fresh and you can always take some of their beans to go. It’s one of the few Barcelona based specialty coffee shops that opens early @ 8:00am. For a while it was a key part of my morning routine when walking the dog and taking an espresso. It’s work friendly and there’s lot’s of available table space. Most importantly you have Mt. Tibidabo in the background and it looks majestic while enjoying your coffee and taking in this beautiful Barcelona neighbourhood. It’s not quite at the very top, although it’s close. This is definitely one of the hillier parts of the city. ⭐️ One of the best espressos 🥱 Opens early ⛰️ Hilly area (Mt. And for good reason…this is a must visit for brunch and coffee lovers. The modernized space makes the best of its Eixample location with a minimal design and street side terrace. The homemade cakes and pastries look even prettier against the soft pastel colors inside. On our visit we avoided the queue and opted for the espresso bar. Special mention to the barista here who created 2 beautiful cortados (espresso shot with foamed milk) and chatted to us about their use of local roasters. We definitely feel like we missed out as the food options looked delicious and we could see everyone enjoying it a lot. Nomad Coffee - Lab & Shop

Nomad Coffee - Lab & Shop

Nomad Coffee - Lab & Shop makes our list for the best specialty coffee in Barcelona. Here's why… Established in 2014 as one of the first specialty coffee shops in Barcelona, Nomads goal was to showcase the quality of specialty coffee in the city at a time when less was known about this process. It's great to see, that even today the experience of this location is strictly coffee. There's limited seating, it's coffee to go and it has a huge range of signature roasts and selections to choose from. On our visit, the place was packed with excited customers waiting for their espressos, pour overs and everything in between. The baristas are friendly and knowledgeable and asked us how we like our coffee to make something to match our tastes. The cafe is surprisingly lush and right in front is a huge collection of plants that Nomad have complemented with green throughout their store and coffee menus on the interior. A few notes on the location: Passatge Sert is a beautiful pedestrian only walkway (not visible on Google Maps) which runs from Carrer d’Ortigosa to Carrer de Sant Pere Més Alt. Even if coffee isn't your number one goal, this is one street in Barcelona you need to check out. It cuts through the century old buildings, has a magical atmosphere and the interior is home to lots of cute independent stores. At one end of this street you’ll find Nomad Coffee - Lab & Shop. ⭐️ Great coffee 🌿 Unique location 🏰 Gothic architecture 🔮 Magical atmosphere Passatge Sert, 12, 08003 Barcelona, Spain Closed now

Nomad Coffee Frutas Selectas

Nomad Coffee Frutas Selectas

Nomad Coffee Frutas Selectas makes our list for the best specialty coffee in Barcelona. Here's why… Frutas Selectas was the initial roasting location for Nomad Coffee. Situated in Poblenou with its strong industrial history, it makes sense that this would be the ideal place to start roasting coffee. They've since outgrown the location for roasting and decided to keep it as a cafe. The name Frutas Selectas comes from selecting only the best coffee beans (fruit) for roasting. And thus ensuring the best quality coffee. Let us start by saying this is one of the nicest coffee and food experiences we’ve had in Barcelona. The Nomad Coffee Frutas Selectas location had been on our list to visit for a while and when we finally did we were very impressed. The coffee was the high standard you would expect from Nomad. They are very attentive in making a coffee to your exact specifications whether that’s an espresso, filter coffee or latte. For home enthusiasts they have a large selection of their beans to go and the extensive menu on the wall makes it easy to choose the right one. For food, all the pastries and sandwiches are made in house. We were lucky and ordered lunch that day from the specials. This included an omelette with garlic butter, truly one of the best omelettes we've ever had and a local dish of Butifarra (Catalan sausage). We hope that when you visit they have equally as delicious specials. Special mention to the barista for explaining the history and story of this location. 📍Unique location and atmosphere 🏭 Nomad coffee heritage Espresso Machine: La Marzocco Coffee Roaster: Nomad Coffee Vegan Milk: Oat Other Food & Drink: Daily specials, pastries Instagram: @nomadcoffee C. de Pujades, 95, Sant Martí, 08005 Barcelona Closed now
